Cover Reveal of MOTOCROSS ME by Cheyanne Young

Happy Memorial Day! To celebrate the day off, we're revealing the cover of Cheyanne Young's debut YA novel, MOTOCROSS ME. (Okay, not because of the holiday, but it sounded good, right?)

Motocross Me by Cheyanne Young
Release date: June 26, 2013

When Hana Fisher moves to the small town of Mixon, Texas to live with her dad, she dreads having to work at the boring pile of dirt he fondly calls a motocross track. But when she gets there, she finds the rinky-dink dirt bike track from her childhood has grown into the most respected racing track in the state.

Now popular by association, Hana endures the pain and sweat of working in the summer heat in order to fit in with a sport she’s growing to love. She gets a real family, a best friend and not just one, but two of the fastest racers trying to win her heart.

When Hana abuses her status as the track owner’s daughter to help the gorgeous Ryan Russo cheat in the biggest race of the year, she risks more than just losing her job. Every good thing in her life is at stake now- her friends, her dad’s trust, and Ash Carter- the kind-hearted racer who may not be as alluring as Ryan, but is proof that nice guys don’t always finish last.

Cheyanne is a native Texan with a fear of cold weather and a coffee addiction that probably needs an intervention. She loves books, sarcasm, Xbox and paid holidays. She lives near the beach with her daughter, one spoiled rotten puppy and a cat who is most likely plotting to take over the world.

MUTILATE MY HEART - Cover Reveal!

Today's the day! This past Monday night, I finished my first full draft of MMH, and now I get to share its awesome cover with you guys! (Spoiler: The cover makes an appearance in the story!)

Mutilate My Heart
Release date: July 9th, 2013

Punk rock band Mutilated Arteries has been seventeen-year-old Becca's world (aka obsession) for the last year. When the band schedules a concert in her hometown, she and her best friend Carli are the first ones in line to buy tickets. The night is everything she expects it to be and more, especially after making friends with the new super-cute bassist, Sketch.

Becca's mom warns her not to fall for a rock star because rock stars are always on the road - or they die in a plane crash, like her mom's favorite band did twenty-something years ago. But after the band's tour bus breaks down and they're stuck hanging out in Roizen Hills for a week, it's hard for Becca not to fall for Sketch and his caricature drawings and toxic green eyes.

Becca knows Sketch is leaving as soon as the bus is fixed, and she can't be his fan-turned-girlfriend anyway because of the lead singer's "No Girlfriends" rule. Plus, there's something strange about the guys that Becca can't quite decipher... like how they won't reveal their real names, their always-changing odd appearances, and the guitarist's obsession with blood and zombies. Still, Becca wants nothing more than for Sketch to mutilate her heart...but it just might not be in a way she expects.

Music Monday: "Diamond Lights" by Rookie of the Year

Music Monday is a weekly feature where I highlight a song that has influenced me through writing, through life events, or just because it’s made my day a little better! This week, I’ll be highlighting…

Song title: “Diamond Lights”
 Artist: Rookie of the Year

Featured novel: Behind the Wooden Door

The story behind this song: One day my sister, Nikki, called me (even though I live right across the hallway) and told me that I had to listen to this song. I believe her exact words were, "Emily, you have to listen to ‘Diamond Lights’ on Rookie’s Along For The Ride album. It’s the perfect song for Lanie and Tristan." She was, of course, right. She usually is always right when it comes to music.

I turned on my laptop right after I hung up the phone and listened to it. I don’t think anyone other than Ryan Dunson could have made that song as beautiful as it is. When I heard it, I could literally see parts of my book playing out (parts I hadn’t even written yet!) like a movie. I just sat there in awe of the words and the music and Ryan’s voice.

The sequel to Behind the Wooden Door is actually titled after this song. No other song (with words) could fit them the way this one does. It’s forever going to be linked to Lanie and Tristan in my mind (and probably Nik’s too) but that’s okay.

Anyone who hasn’t listened to Rookie of the Year, you seriously need to! This song’s always a good one to start with! =D

Music Monday: "When We Were Young" by The Summer Set

Music Monday is a weekly feature where I highlight a song that has influenced me through writing, through life events, or just because it’s made my day a little better! This week, I’ll be highlighting…

Song title: “We Were Young”
Artist: The Summer Set

Featured novel/novella: Sunset At Dawn

The story behind this song: The first time I heard this song, I was driving to my dad’s house and had just gotten The Summer Set’s album Everything’s Fine. It randomly shuffled to track number 2 and the very first chord sucked me in. The Summer Set is one of those bands that just makes you feel free and adventurous and happy. The music in the song makes you want to roll down your windows and fly down the highway without a single care in the world. The lyrics are about looking back on a time when you were young and with that special someone and being in love and happy, but then reality sets in and people sometimes grow apart and hardly see each other or speak again.

This song inspired so much in my prequel to Mutilate My Heart, and the prequel (Sunset At Dawn) would only be half plotted without this song. It’s an amazing song, and the band is absolutely incredible. So, you should go look them up! =D

Music Monday: "Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional

Music Monday is a weekly feature where I highlight a song that has influenced me through writing, through life events, or just because it’s made my day a little better! This week, I’ll be highlighting…

Song title: “Hands Down”
Artist: Dashboard Confessional

Featured novel: Mutilate My Heart

The story behind this song: I was looking through my music one day for a song to add to my playlist for Mutilate My Heart when I came across the acoustic version of this song. I don’t know what it is about it, but I sat on my bed for hours with it on repeat. It just felt so perfect for my main character and the love interest’s relationship. Every time my music shuffles to it, I have to listen to it, and then I want to go write! It helped my push through two chapters that I was completely stuck on, and it influenced a lot of little things in the novel (like the love interest jumping over a locked fence to let the MC in). I love songs like this one that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I listen to it and makes me want to sit down and write until I run out of words to say! <3
